Ars Longa, Vita Brevis

” Ars longa vita brevis ” is a Latin phrase which means that ” Art is eternal, where as, life is brief”. Art is a beautiful depiction of our thoughts through visuals that we portray maybe in form of sketches or moulds. A piece of art has many hidden secrets in it. The inspiration that I get from is by a very famous romantics John Keats, who in a poem of his ” The Grecian Urn ” brings to life the dead imprints of a precious Greek Urn and compares the permanence of art to the temporal beauty of life. Nothing stays in this world forever. Although art does. ” A work of art is the unique result of a unique temperament.”- Oscar Wilde.Famous work pieces of various works men are still there and exist in a stable condition since thousands of years. Some of them are even in a good enough state and have become a bizarre to the world .Art is an inspiration. It inspires people and motivates them to give a structure to their feelings and emotions and show the world what they feel.
Taking a deeper dive into the ocean of art, it is not limited to a pallet of colours or to a ceramic pot. It has a vast meaning. If we observe closely whatever we like and do to express our feelings is art. A picture is a poem without words. It has a heavy meaning attached to it and not drawn without purpose. Dance forms? Yes it is another form of art. Various countries have different dance style which tell about their culture and ethics are portrayed in their dance. “Without tradition, art is a flock of sheep without a shepherd. Without innovation, it is a corpse.” – Oscar Wilde.Singing is another kind of art. Right from the opera to the classical music.” True art is characterised by an irresistible urge in the creative artist.” – Albert Einstein . Writing is another art. A writer plays with words and places them on a paper in such a manner that the attract the readers and captures his sight and have a control in the mind of the reader. The essence of all beautiful art, all great art, is gratitude. Your passion towards your kind of art is what makes it a masterpiece. “A guilty conscience needs to confess. A work of art is a confession.” – Albert Camus.
This entire world is a canvas to our imagination and all of us are it’s artists. Some of us are really good ones. Some are still learners. The art teaches us many lessons by the secrets which you need to unlock in them. Once you know how to read the art you’re another great artist. It helps you with real life experiences as well. As the art is a depiction of our feelings and is our only partner during the times of sorrow and pain. And with the fulfilment of the respective art we get a different kind of pleasure which swipes away all the sorrows of life and makes it worth living. It gives a meaning to life like that of a colour to a painting, a string to a guitar and a costume to a dance. Without art, the crude-ness of reality would make the world unbearable.
Art is permanent and never ending . The artist might change but the art would remain forever. “The highest art is always the most religious, and the greatest artist is always a devout person.” -Abraham Lincoln. So many art pieces exist in the world which have a value of more than that of a crores of diamonds. They are priceless. The feelings attached to the masterpieces cannot be measured in a balance with even things of great value. The artist leave and life is only a brief journey, but their work remains permanent. “No great artist ever sees things as they really are. If he did, he would cease to be an artist.”- Oscar Wilde. A picture is worth a thousand words. There are so many art pieces which exist in this world like the ‘ Mona Lisa’ and the ‘ Taj Mahal’ but their artists have gone far away in a different world of which we have seen in arts. Art is beautiful. “The sculptor produces the beautiful statue by chipping away such parts of the marble block as are not needed – it is a process of elimination.” -Elbert Hubberd. The essence of all art is to have pleasure in giving pleasure. The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web. Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures. Without freedom, there is no art. Art lives only on the restraints it imposes on itself, and dies of all others. ” Painting is another way of keeping a diary” – Pablo Picasso. Art is a collaboration between God and the artist, and the less the artist does the better. Very few people possess true artistic ability. It is therefore both unseemly and unproductive to irritate the situation by making an effort. If you have a burning, restless urge to write or paint, simply eat something sweet and the feeling will pass. So, be an artist and paint the entire world in your own colours.
