Break Free from Everyday Life

“When we get too caught up in the busyness of the world, we lose connection with one another – and ourselves”
-Jack Kornfield

What does being free mean?  Does it mean that we’re free from our daily schedules, or does it mean that we don’t have to follow any rules or regulations? For everyone, freedom is different. For a child, to be free means that he or she can play for as long as they want. For a teenager it may be that he or she can go to parties without supervision. For adults, being free may mean going on a long holiday away from all the work and stress. Being free also means being happy. And that applies to everyone. From a child to an adult, freedom is somewhat an extension of being happy. Because if you’re free, wouldn’t you feel happy about it? Without you realizing it, being free pushes you to try out new things. Not only does it make you independent, it forces you to make your own choices which take a lot of courage. Not everyone can be expected to make their own life decisions. It gives you a sense of pride when you look back at your life.

However, it is only when a person is free from everyday life, he can discover his true self. Everyone has schedules and everyone has to follow them. And that is what makes our life so comfortable – the everyday routine which we follow without even realizing it. It is so difficult to get out of that system where everything is being done on time. It happens with everyone. Ever slept at 4 in the morning? Disrupts everything, doesn’t it? You end up waking late, sometimes you even skip breakfast and the whole day becomes weird.

Many times we do things on a regular basis. Our lives end up being mundane and that is the reason why people end up being so frustrated. When you’re following the same pattern since the past few years, who wouldn’t get irritated? There’s nothing new in life! That’s why it is so important to get out of your comfort zone – do things which you are scared to do. Things which will make you worry. Things which will make you think twice before doing them. So you make mistakes. But isn’t that a part of life? Life cannot be all perfect. There’ll be times when you won’t even want to admit some mistakes because well, they were THAT embarrassing. It’s okay! Own up to them. Haven’t you heard the phrase, ‘Life is too short to worry?  So you did something wrong and now would be the perfect time to let it go. Thinking about the past is important but giving all your precious time by thinking about it is definitely not worth it.

It does not take much to break free from the monotonous life. Explore yourself. Get out of your room, take a break and go somewhere where you can be free from everything. Have you ever gone out for dinner just by yourself?  Being alone does not mean you don’t have any friends because of which you are roaming like a loner. No. In fact, at times being alone is all it takes to release all the tension that has been building up in your head for so long. Break free! Go travelling! Discover new places, meet new people, make new friends, and learn new things – that is when you will discover your true self.  Not only does it provide a new outlook towards life, you start feeling positive too. Whenever you come back from a holiday, you feel fresh, rejuvenated. You feel that you are ready to take on every difficulty that comes your way.  We have to realize that every day is a new day. Every day we get a chance to do something new. Nobody is asking you to start out by spending all your earnings on travel. You can always start small – Walk to your school or office instead of traveling by the car. You can also try out new things like hiking or going for adventures with friends and can also join clubs to meet new people with whom you can share your experiences with.  It is also good if you start working out or do some physical activity. Not only will it make you fit, it will also increase your interaction with other people.

It is very important to enjoy your own company. Being dependant on someone doesn’t bring out the best in you. It is only when you have full knowledge of who you are, what your likes and dislikes are – The only you can be in someone else’s company. Many relationships fail because of this reason only. It is better to realize your limitations beforehand and not go through the trouble of breaking it off with the person.

I don’t think we realize just how fast we go until you stop for a minute and realize just how loud and how hectic your life is,and how easily distracted you can get. – Meg Ryan
