“Sister. She is your mirror, shining back at you with a world of possibilities. She is your witness, who sees you at your worst and best, and loves you anyway. She is your partner in crime, your midnight companion, someone who knows when you are smiling, even in the dark. She is your teacher, your defence attorney, your personal press agent, even your shrink. Some days, she’s the reason you wish you were an only child.”
The world may judge you but she will always be there irrespective of what you are or who you are cause for her you will always be her sister. We fight, we have our own misunderstandings, we may not talk for days together but you lay a finger on her and I can chop your head off.
Life without a sister will be like a boat without an anchor. I think I am blessed to have an elder sister though I’ll never admit this to her. I am actually glad I have an elder sister instead of a brother. Brothers are always protective about their sisters, they put all these restrictions and you just have to adhere to them. They will never let you wear a short skirt to the coffee shop but won’t mind if their girlfriends do. If a brother sees a guy’s name flashing on your phone that’s the end of the world. Sisters however are always there teaching you. They will not stop you from wearing that skirt but will teach you how to carry yourself in it. She will sit and dissect each and every detail about that guy and pause, gasp and giggle at exactly the right places. She will help you face the world and let you make your own mistakes but will never let go of your hand helping you cope up with whatever life throws at you.
“If you don’t understand how a woman could both love her sister dearly and want to wring her neck at the same time, then you were probably an only child.”
~ Linda Sunshine
I totally agree with Linda Sunshine, though we sisters love each other but we do go through the whole “I wish she never existed” phase. Its annoying when she takes something out of my cupboard without asking me, she wants to charge her phone exactly when I put mine on charge, she wants to eat my favourite part of the cake, what I like fits her and not me, she gets to go out partying and I don’t,she takes hours for a shower when am already running late,is on the phone all night and you can’t sleep because of her giggles. These are the times I do wonder about my life minus my sister….My wardrobe will be mine maybe I would have had more clothes as well, I could use my bathroom as and when I like, nobody blaring music in my room, more space to throw my stuff in the room also no one to fight for the tv remote control.
But then how boring life will be without a Sister? Who will I dance with like a crazy person? Who will tickle me till I die laughing on the floor? However annoying a sister can get but she is the only one who is our best and worst critic in the world. She toughened you up. After years of her hurtful comments and teasing, any insults friends or bullies aimed at you bounced off your skin like rubber. No one throws a jab like an older sister. She know what is cool, so you are automatically in the loop of the current trends, she tells you what is classy and what is flashy. She showed you that it’s normal to feel odd and awkward and confused as you grow up and she’ll always be there with a cup of hot chocolate listening to you. She teaches you how to put a guy straight and keep your head high. She will become the black sheep of the family and fight with parents to let you go out for the night and of course bending the rules all the time. She’s always a stellar advisor be it on fashion, boys, shoes, bags anything she will give you the best advice. More importantly She teaches you how to be confident. She was never afraid to be herself, and proved that you shouldn’t be either.
A sister shares our childhood memories and grown up dreams. She sits up all night listening to your dreams even though they can never be a reality. She lets you hold her hand through those stormy nights and sure there are times she scares the hell out of you by making scary noises too. She lets you play on her phone of course after you agree on doing her work. She takes you out with her friends after you whine for hours but the best part is she will never want to go out with yours.
A sister is a forever friend. If you have a sister you will never be lonely. Even when she’s married and gone she will be there for you listening to your ordeals. You know if you are Hope she is Faith.
