A lot of times in life, we do not get what we desire, what we have worked for and strive to achieve. At times, circumstances do not favor us whereas at other times our efforts do not bear much fruit. However, at all these times there is one thing that we do not fail to do. We do not fail to blame our luck for all our failures in life. Perhaps, it is inherent and intrinsic and a part of being human. We, as humans do not and cannot recognize any other factor responsible for our failures however much we try. We place ‘luck’ on a higher pedestal than effort and hard work. All of us have been reading since kindergarten that there is no shortcut to success and hard work is the key to success but despite knowing everything we do not want to accept the truth.
We ask ourselves, “Why are some people luckier than others?” Alas, we are seriously mistaken in comprehending some of the grave realities of life. Success rarely comes to those who spend their lives comparing themselves with others. Instead, success knocks at the door of those who put in their best efforts in whatever they do and say ‘I will do my best’ everyday. Luck has an insignificant role to play in the journey to reach your goal. Work for excellence and success will come after you without you having to seek it.
That person with the Ferrari and Lamborghini might seem rich in wealth but not everyone who owns a pile of gold is rich. Richness comes from love, compassion, effort and handwork. Richness is not about chancing upon wealth and treasures. This hypocritical world measures success from the amount of currency notes you have. But, currency notes are not the end. They are just the beginning of life. Success should not be pursued at any price, in order to be a successful person one must fill their lives with love, joy and compassion. Thomas Jefferson’s famous quote stands true in this context-
“I am a great believer of luck, and I find that the harder I work, the more I have of it.”
Real success lies in enriching your life and not cramming your coffers with gold. Success is dedication, hard work and an unremitting devotion to the things that you want to see happening. Success is not absence of mistakes; success is not quitting after making mistakes. With a little more persistence and effort what seemed like a hopeless failure might turn into a glorious success. You might often have to change direction, and you might lose your way, but in the end despite everything you will have to find it again and carry on because there is no shortcut to success.
Also, it is important that you like doing what you do. Interest in your work is a full- fledged guarantee of your success. If you really want to do something, you will definitely find a way to do it. On the other hand, if you do not want to do something, you will find an excuse of not doing it. Listen to your instincts, and pursue your real interests in life. Those who do so, often end up changing the world. Do not just try to please others and do what they expect of you. Your work should be a manifestation of your soul and enthusiasm. Anyone who does his or her work with love fills his or her creation with such intensity that the world applauds his efforts. Achieve the dreams in your heart and stop believing in the doubts in your mind because that is what real success means.
Remember, that we learn from failure and not from success. Therefore, it is important that we do not fear failure and take every step forward towards success despite the hurdles and obstacles on the way. Do not try to put off the moment out of fear or insecurity. Your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure. Despite the traps along the way, dare to finish what you began. Defeats are inevitable in the lives of those who take risks. Do not be paralyzed by them. Do not stop when you experience your moments of misery, because you have not yet reached your goal. Just believe in yourself and say to yourself, “I am going to succeed. Have your goal in mind, and advance step by step towards it. Do not be in a hurry and do not look for shortcuts.
Most important of all things, keep your values intact while undertaking the road to success. The road to success is often cobbled with stones and its ends are forked. In such a scenario, being a man of value is more important than being a man of success. Do not offend people or try to take revenge. Adolf Hitler was a successful man but he believed in attacking others and soon the stage for his doom was set. “Success is more firm and permanent if you achieve it without destroying your principles”, says Walter Cronkite. Be proud of what you do.
What is success?
It is about being happy and being what you are and leading your soul towards peace.
