Friendship, is one relationship in your lifetime without which one’s life is almost incomplete. It’s a human tendency to interact and socialise throughout and share his ideas and fact and knowledge with someone or the other. Man is a social animal after all, and hence he requires a friend in life to pour his heart out to. “Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.”- Helen Keller. A friend has no definition as such.
He or she might be of any age, might be a human or an animal, a parent or a partner, might share any relationship with you. A friend is basically somebody in front of whom you are you true self. You do not have to present the fake side of yours to make him like your personality, in fact a friend is someone who loves you for who you truly are. ” One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship is to understand and to be understood.” – Lucius Annaeus Seneca.
In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit. And the one who listens to us during our hard times is whom we refer to as a friend. Friendship is a relation which has no rules and no boundaries. A friendship can weather most things and thrive in thin soil, but it needs a little mulch of letters and phone calls and small, silly presents every so often – just to save it from drying out completely.
A friend is someone who gives you total freedom to be yourself. A friend should be one in whose understanding and virtue we can equally confide, and whose opinion we can value at once for its just-ness and its sincerity. ” Friendship is a single soul dwelling in two bodies.” – Aristotle. A friendship may not always be true, especially in these days, people even at times tend to play with your emotions, use you up and then generally they back stab you! Even Caesar was stabbed by his true friend Brutus when it came to saving his life, and literally stabbed a knife on his back, no matter later we come to know it was to take a revenge against the conspiracy. A true friend freely, advises justly, assists readily, adventures boldly, takes all patiently, defends courageously, and continues a friend without changing further. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing… not healing, not curing… that is a friend who cares.
“Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art… It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.” – C.S Lewis. A friend is someone who gives you total freedom to be yourself. “Friendship… is not something you learn in school. But if you haven’t learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven’t learned anything.” -Muhammed Ali. Friendship is a need. A necessity in everyone’s life. No one can stay alone all his life. We all need someone or the other around us to give us a shoulder to cry on.
Friendship is precious, not only in the shade, but in the sunshine of life, and thanks to a benevolent arrangement the greater part of life is sunshine. Each friend represents a world in us, a world not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born. What matters is to choose the right person. But how does one come to know whether a person will not be dual faced and play the role with us like that of the three musketeers. It is time that will tell us, and all we need to do is give time to our friends and test them at the right opportunity, if he stays truthful, he will remain lifelong, else, he is not worth your friendship. A true friend is one who overlooks your failures and tolerates your success! One who will encourage you for entering the right paths and stand as an obstacle in front of the wrong ones. Also what is important is that when you choose your friends, don’t be short-changed by choosing personality over character. A personality might be fake but a character is always true and will never lie.
A person with a true character would in most cases turn out to be a good friend. “Sometimes being a friend means mastering the art of timing. There is a time for silence. A time to let go and allow people to hurl themselves into their own destiny. And a time to prepare to pick up the pieces when it’s all over.” Octavia Butler. Always be slow to fall in a friendship, but once you are into one, be firm and constant. There is a magnet in your heart that will attract true friends. That magnet is un-selfishness, thinking of others first, when you learn to live for others, they will live for you. It is important to be a good friend for entering into a bond of friendship, if you will give your best, so will you get.
